New Graduate Students

Six Essential Steps to becoming a Graduate Student at SF State

We are thrilled to welcome you to the Gator family. To make it official, there are six important steps that all admitted graduate students need to complete to confirm enrollment. This checklist will walk you through those steps to start your future at SF State.

To accept your offer, you first need to set up your Student Center account with a password. Visit the SF State ID for New Student Password set up to complete this step. Make sure you have your student ID number handy provided in your acceptance notice. You’ll need it.

Accept your offer!

Log into your new Student Center account at gateway.sfsu.edu. Under the Future Students heading, click on Application Status. When prompted, click the Access Student Center button.

Once in your Student Center, go to the Admissions section and under the My Applications box, click Accept or Decline and ACCEPT YOUR OFFER!

New Graduate Students

Your Student Center will automatically update with your acceptance status.

Introduce yourself to your graduate coordinator by email. The graduate coordinator for your program oversees program specific admission procedures, hosts department orientations, will help you identify your primary graduate faculty advisor, and may help you identify committee members on theses, creative works, field projects, or graduate examinations. Your graduate coordinator is a primary resource.

New Graduate Student Orientation week August 9 – 13

  1. Sign-in to your Student Center. Under Student, select Financial/Jobs
  2. Select the Access Student Center button
  3. Under the Finance section, click View Financial Aid and select 2022 as your aid year.
  4. To accept your Financial Aid Award, click on Accept/Decline awards at the top of the page. Remember to select 2022 as your aid year.

  1. Submit an official copy of your final transcripts that show all of your grades and your date of graduation.
  2. Submit final transcripts no later than September 30, 2021, to:
    Email: graddocs@sfsu.edu (Must come directly from the institution itself. Attached PDFs from student’s email will be considered unofficial).

ASPIRE: SFSU Pandemic Survival Guide: The transition to college is already a lot, and then we have the COVID-19 pandemic and continued racial injustice on top of that.
